The famous six-syllable mantra of the Compassion Buddha, Om Mani Padme Hum is recited, while doing the meditation and visualization.
After every 108 recitations, white light is visualized coming from Kuan Yin, flowing into and completely filling the whole body. It purifies selfishness, the self-cherishing mind, ignorance, attachment, and anger – obstacles to a person’s practice of compassion. The white light blesses the person practicing the visualization, and gives them the ability to understand and integrate kindness in their daily lives. They dedicate their prayers to attaining the bodhichitta heart – the intense wish to attain enlightenment for the sake of all sentient beings.
